At KidLink Community Services, we believe that anyone with a heart for helping children can make a difference as a foster parent. We encourage anyone interested in fostering to contact us, even if you’re unsure about your eligibility. Here’s a list of our general requirements for potential foster parents:

  • Applicants can be single or married
  • Applicants can be with or without children of their own
  • Renters or homeowners
  • Financially stable individuals who can meet their own needs
  • Applicants in good health, able to pass a health exam
  • Must be at least 21 years old (18 years old for kinship fostering)
  • Tennessee residents
  • Pass background checks
  • Valid state driver’s license with reliable transportation

In addition to these general requirements, potential foster parents must complete pre-approval trainings, including TN-Key classes and other courses focused on child welfare, trauma and resilience. After approval, foster parents are required to complete 15-24 hours of in-service training during their first year of fostering, depending on whether they are providing therapeutic foster care or not.

Remember, many people underestimate their ability to become foster parents. If you’re unsure about your eligibility, don’t hesitate to contact us. Our team at KidLink Community Services is here to guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.
